The New Place: A Sneak Peek
I may or may not have snuck over to the new place and I may or may not have taken pictures to share with you.
Mostly may.
I just couldn't wait until closing to share with you some pics of the new place. While the structure is very good and most of the original 1950's home integrity has been preserved well, we still have some work to do. I do occasionally feel overwhelmed at everything that has to happen in the next month, followed immediately by full summer planting mode, so I have to remind myself that this is something to be thankful for, it's not a burden.
Forgive my lack of photo artistry...I was in a hurry.
First we have the living room. That black box in the corner of the ceiling is a wood stove pipe, which we will be installing this Fall.
Beautiful, six-foot-wide windows with the original facings. Love. Love. Love.
This is the dining room off the living area. Again, love the windows.

We will not be keeping any of the wall colors in this house. And that wall paper and border? That has to go. We are actually taking our current wall color, a buttery yellow (see below) with us for the living and dining room. The chair rail and below will be white.

As you can see, this is the kitchen. Look at all that cabinet space! The cabinets are original, sturdy, and made of real wood. Will we be keeping them? Of course! I wish I'd remembered to take a photo of the window over the sink. It is the original crank out style. My picture doesn't do justice to the atrocious school bus yellow color of the walls. After a few coats of paint it will be a calming sage with pure white cabinets, similar to this pin. Ultimately, I want butcher block countertops, but for now these are going to get a few coats of paint while we save.

The next stop on this tour are a few of the bedrooms. I didn't take a photo of the room Lane has claimed, but it has maps decoupaged on one wall. He likes it so we'll keep it for a while. It's very boy-ish.
Below is the garage-turned-giant bedroom which will act as my mother-in-laws bedroom and private living space. I think this room is about the size of her current apartment, I kid you not. It has a private door to the outside and a bathroom in the back that, I'll be honest, I'm jealous of. It's by far the biggest bathroom in the house. :) This room will get the same yellow paint as the living and dining room.

This bedroom is officially the master, although I think it's the smallest in the house. It does have a tiny bathroom attached and, most importantly, the window shown outlooks the most important part of this place....my garden. This is where I plan on doing much of my work, I have a large writing project I want to get up and running and I think this might just be the place to give me the inspiration I need. The room color in this room is good, but the border has to go.
| Master bedroom |
This is the largest of the bedrooms and, as you can see, is thoroughly uninspired color-wise. This room is adjacent to the master room and my ultimate plan is to connect the two to create a master suite. Wouldn't that be nice?

This is the hall bath, or public bath.We will strip the wallpaper, paint the walls the same sage green as the kitchen, and give the cabinets and facing a coat of white paint. You probably can't see it, but this nautical theme has to go.

Now, to the bread and butter of this post: the garden. This is what made me fall in love at first sight and what makes putting all our stuff in boxes and hauling it across town worth while.
This is the view about 10 feet from the back fence. To find a lot like this in town, in our price range, and ready for a garden is certainly a blessing from God. My grandpa came by and said we have fruit trees and a wisteria (not shown). To the left are two flat areas for storage buildings, or in our case, most likely a storage building and a potting shed/green house. I cannot wait to see all this in bloom!
As if all this isn't good enough, we have...
...A grape vine. Maybe one day I'll even try my hand at wine making.
